The last item on my wedding to-do list.
Forget Dear Abby and prepare your heart.
I'm serious.
And remember this excerpt from none other than J.D. Salinger's Seymour: An Introduction:
You'll deny it up and down, I fear, but I'm really in no position to take your word for it. You're a great bird-lover. Much like a man in a short story called 'Skule Skerry', by John Buchan, which Arnold L. Sugarman, Jr, once pressed me to read during a very poorly supervised study-hall period, you're someone who took up birds in the first place because they fired your imagination; they fascinated you because 'they seemed of all created beings the nearest to pure spirit- those little creatures with a normal temperature of 125°'. Probably just like this John Buchan man, you thought many thrilling related thoughts; you reminded yourself, I don't doubt, that: 'The gold crest, with a stomach no bigger than a bean, flies across the North Sea! The curlew sandpiper, which breeds so far north that only about three people have ever seen its nest, goes to Tasmania for its holidays!' It would be too much of a good thing to hope, of course, that my very own general reader should turn out to be one of the three people who have actually seen the curlew sandpiper's nest, but I feel, at least, that I know him - you - quite well enough to guess what kind of well-meant gesture might be welcomed from me right now.
Please accept this feather as a promise that we are bird-lovers 'till the end.

This one is for the ladies! My old roommate Holly, who by the way is getting married on the SAME DAY as Matthew and I, invited me to have a joined bridal shower. Yay! We wore veils and opened lady-things and ate cute foods. I want to write more, but I think you should just look at Vicki's pictures, they say it all. I think Jenna got some group shots, I'll link them if they come to the Internets.

(Yes, I am wearing the same outfit as the SJ shower. That's what happens when you live on the road (and put pictures online so that people find you out).)
On April 26th we convened for another shower. This time in Huntington Beach with the other side of Laura's family. We had a very nice time. Laura and I got to talk with Stephanie and Matt who are getting married not too long after us. We compared notes on finding places to live and planning our weddings. Also, Stephanie reminded me how great a catch Laura is!
This shower was originally proposed to be ladies only, but they let us guys in anyhow. So while they ladies were doing girly things us men went for a walk and ended up hanging out in the living room of house that was having an open house. I think it was really confusing and daunting for the realtor when the ten of us walked in. The house was pretty interesting because it was three stories with the living room on the center floor. It reminded me of the model home on Arrested Development.
All of the other photos from this event can be found on Flickr.
Things are progressing at a rapid rate. The wedding is in less than three weeks. There are many things that we hope to document, but if time does not allow for such luxuries, there is something that we would like you to know. And that is the origin of the name of this website and, one might go as far to say, "theme" of the wedding.
"We belong to each other" is a phrase coined by Laura during Existential Media's journey to compete for the coveted title of "The Ultimate Blogger." Given the challenge to create a blog about piracy, our group contemplated how all human ideas belong to time itself and are perhaps part in parcel of the collective human consciousness. We decided to use the phrase, "we belong to each other" as a mantra to embody the role we play in each other's sense of self. This was also the concept behind Laura's senior art show about human contact as articulated in the title CONTACT((how are you not my self)). It is an important idea for us and we wanted to bring it into the ceremony of our union.
So when you come to our wedding, we want you to know that we see you as a part of our "self" and that the phrase includes you. You are a part of us. Thank you.
I came across this Etsy listing today. How great is that? Deeply nerdy! I mean, too bad I didn't find it before I bought Laura's ring. Well, not really. I like Laura's better. Because we are getting married soon wedding related things like this are always catching my attention.
Adorable! This guy made a Dashboard Widget to propose! Also deeply nerdy! Do you want to know the most adorable though?

We want to tell you about our lil shawty. Her name is Margot Chickpea, but we mostly call her Margot or Baby Cat. We got her October 19, 2007 from the Glendora Village Pet Shop. This was during our last semester in college. We really wanted a cat for a long time, ever since our other feline friend Travis went to live in San Diego. My birthday rolled around and I decided it was time. So we went to the pet shop with the intention of finding a brand new baby cat. There were many rescue kittens at the pet shop. All of them hanging out and licking each other and sleeping on each other. We looked at a couple of kittens, but Margot called to me. She was immediately cuddly and sleepy and mellow. She was perfect.
Supreme bonus: Margot was born around August 23, 2007, which is the day I asked Laura to marry me. Love Cat!
You are planning on coming and you have been wondering what in the world will we eat. Aren't Matthew and Laura into weird food? Aren't they VEGAN?!
You are right. But you are also using the wrong adjective. We are not into weird food, we are into food that feeds the body and blows the mind. We are interested in bold flavors, wickedly hot spices, potent elixirs, ENZYMES, we want raw greens and we want them now.
So we've summoned the only dudes fit for such a calling, you guessed it: none other than the infamous Hot Knives. Dang.
For all of you who are worried about missing your meats and bland fillers, rest assured, it is only one night. You can go back to your preferred ways of eating on Sunday. But on this, the day of our cañata, we will ignite our tender palates with the genius and wisdom of the dear Alex Brown and Evan George.
The menu will feature such beauties as Radish Bites, Mini Port Cherry Pies, and many more equally thrilling eats. They have boasted of "stupendously meta plans for blogging the whole thing from start to finish." Head on over to their blog on Urban Honking for updates and teasers.
Please rest assured that you will not be sorry. And yes, we will make you try it. We want everyone to dance with us. You are in good hands.
